Offshore Bank Accounts

Why You Need an Offshore Bank Account

Adam went to his local bank to cash a cheque to get some petty cash for his mail order business. “Sorry your account’s blocked” the sympathetic looking teller said. Adam couldn’t understand it. He had been with the bank for more than 20 years and had over $250,000 on deposit there.

After asking to see the manager he found that the bank employees didn’t know anything more. The account was frozen after receiving a court order. He should call his lawyer. Adam left the bank with less than $100 in his pocket. It was all the money he had in the world. He had to put food on the table for his family. Pay legal fees and run his business.

Imagine this happening to you? This scenario is becoming more and more common. Multiple government agencies can freeze your accounts without notifying you. Some can even dip in and have money transferred from your account to cover outstanding tax bills and the like.

If this happened to you and all your money was with your local bank it would clearly be your worst nightmare. However if you had a chunk of money in an overseas bank you could calmly move on and deal with the problem knowing that you have money available to continue life as normal.

That’s why an Offshore account is all but essential nowadays. Particularly if you’re in business or involved in any legal process like a divorce.

Fortunately, with the right guidance, it’s easy to open an overseas account. You can do it remotely without travelling. You can use online banking to manage your account. And you’ll have a debit card to draw cash or spend money in your home country whenever you need to.

You can open accounts in some of the most private jurisdictions in the world. You can even open an account in notoriously secretive Switzerland with as little as $5,000. You might even have access to better investment opportunities with your overseas bank.

Now I’m not suggesting you move all your money today to a secretive offshore haven. But I do recommend that you dip your toe in the water.

Open an account with a few thousand and get used to using it and dealing with the new bank. When you feel comfortable you can add more. You can even open multiple accounts for added peace of mind and security.
